Growing up in a small town inspired Andrea Nutt, DNP, FNP-C to become a primary care provider in a rural setting. “Not everyone is willing or able to go to the closest city to take care of their health,” she says. “I want my rural patients to have access to the same quality health care they would get in a big city, and I’m proud to be able to offer many of the same treatments in their own communities.”
Andrea has worked in nursing since 2000. She has experience nursing in inpatient rehabilitation, hospital critical care and primary care settings. In a typical week at BestMed, she performs physical exams and diagnostic testing, prescribes medications and develops treatment plans for both acute and chronic illnesses. Her favorite part of primary care, however, is educating patients about their illnesses.
“I love to educate patients about their health and the things they can do to better manage it,” she says. “Whether eating healthy, participating in physical activity daily or taking medications as ordered, when a person understands how to take care of their health, they are much more likely to do it. I believe patients are the experts on their own felt experience of any disease — I just help them understand medical information and provide guidance.”
