Frank James Garber, Jr., is a health care professional who is passionate about providing patients the best care possible and engaging them in their health care decisions. He is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C).

With his extensive educational background and experience, he is both a compassionate health care provider and a credible source of knowledge who ensures our blog posts are accurate prior to publication.

Frank James Garber, Jr. graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology (1989) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (1993) from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (presently known as University of Louisiana at Lafayette). He went on to earn his Master of Science in Nursing, Adult Nurse Practitioner from McNeese State University in 2007. In 2007, he pursued and completed a post-master’s certificate in Nurse Practitioner Advancement, Adult to Family Nurse Practitioner from Northern Kentucky University. 

In addition, Frank James Garber, Jr. has completed the Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), the Emergency Nurse Pediatric curriculum and in Advanced Electrocardiogram Interpretation.

 

In 1989, Frank James Garber, Jr. entered the health care field, starting as a supervisor of pool and gym treatment areas at Physical Therapy West. A few years later, he pursued a career as a flight nurse on a fixed wing aircraft for Acadian Ambulance and Air Med Services, Inc.

In 1993, he started a 14-year tenure at Lafayette General Medical Center, where he held varying positions ranging from the weekend nursing supervision/on-site administrator to hyperbaric nursing and wound care.

He later served as a clinical Instructor for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s nursing program, teaching adult health and critical care. From 2007-2012, he worked as an emergency department nurse practitioner for several hospitals and medical centers throughout Louisiana.

He began his current position as a medical operations officer and health care provider at Community Care Partners, LLC/SouthStar Urgent Care in 2012. His duties include providing education and support to staff and health care providers; hiring clinical providers; providing medical support for area managers and practice supervisors; and onboarding new providers.

Frank James Garber, Jr. is licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Nurse Practitioners and currently holds certifications in:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (CPR)

In the past, he has also held certifications as a Certified Medical Examiner for Federal Motor Carriers Administration and a Louisiana Organ Procurement Certified Requester (LOPA).

Frank James Garber, Jr. also holds several professional memberships, including:

  • American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
  • Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners
  • Emergency Nurses Association
