“What I love most about practicing medicine is the ability to change people’s lives for the better. Sometimes you can really do that for someone. You can save their life or really make a difference for them. The gratitude they have really makes a difference in how I view my work.”

Rich Hamblin brings more than 17 years of experience as a licensed physician assistant to BestMed. Focusing on primary care for families, he is known for his compassion and exceptional quality of care. Rich’s experience working in various clinical settings allows him to diagnose and treat a wide variety of conditions, illnesses and injuries. He is committed to helping every patient learn about their health and understand their risk factors. His collaborative approach to care has proven time and again to result in the best possible patient outcomes. “I have always enjoyed working in medicine and have done so most of my life, first as an X-ray porter, then as a dialysis technician, then as an EMT on an ambulance before deciding to go further in my schooling as an advanced medical provider.”

Rich has always been passionate about supporting people on their paths to lead healthy lifestyles. After earning his bachelor’s degree from Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California, Rich graduated from the Bouve College of Health Sciences, an accredited physician assistant master’s program at Northeastern University in Massachusetts. He began his clinical career as an EMT and a hemodialysis technician at a Kidney Dialysis Center in Napa, California. He then served as a certified physician assistant in both family medicine and urgent care settings in several medical practices throughout Oregon before joining BestMed.

Rich’s best health advice for his patients is simple. “Maintain a healthy weight by eating healthy foods and exercising regularly. Many chronic medical problems are related to or worsened by obesity and can be avoided if you can keep your weight under control.”

Rich enjoys collecting first edition rare books and nature history items like fossils and antiquities when not caring for his patients. He also likes hiking, boating and skiing.”
