“What I love most about practicing medicine is helping people understand their bodies and what they can do for themselves—and then helping them when they can’t.”

As a certified Physician Assistant, Sharon DeHart helps her patients by diagnosing chronic, acute, and onset illnesses and collaborating with them to create actionable treatment plans. With education and experience in pathology, anatomy, physiology, clinical medicine, pharmacology, and physical diagnosis, Sharon brings a comprehensive understanding of the human body. “I wish I could tell every patient that most everything is preventable—we just need to help you figure out how.”

Pairing her expertise with her compassionate demeanor, Sharon’s patients trust her to offer honest and optimistic feedback. Her specialty skills include primary care of all ages, chronic disease management, orthopedics, biopsies, suturing, splinting and casting, wound care, behavioral health, pain management, hospice, and palliative care, and in-hospital rural patient care. “I love helping everyone from birth through the dying.”

After saving lives as an emergency management services responder for over twenty years, Sharon decided that she wanted to expand her capacity to provide quality care. To accomplish her goal, she obtained her Physician Assistant certification. “I decided I needed more. Becoming a Physician Assistant allowed me to begin my new career by building upon all my past years’ experiences.”

Since earning her certification in 2002, Sharon has treated patients in a variety of settings, such as a free community clinic, a community hospital, and a comprehensive medical clinic in which she treated all phases of care with a heavy focus on internal medicine and pain management. Committed to ensuring that all patients, regardless of their ability, can receive high-quality healthcare, Sharon also treated nursing home patients and provided at-home care.

For her unwavering commitment to treating all those in need, particularly in underserved communities, Sharon received the Karen Whitaker Knapp Service Award from the Oregon Health & Sciences University Physician Assistant Program in 2019 and is a recipient of the 2018 Rural Health Hero of the Year award from the Oregon Office of Rural Health.

Sharon has lived in Newport, Toledo, Lincoln City, Redmond, and Wamic. Today, she lives in Florence. When not treating patients, Sharon enjoys, “Spending time with my hubby and family, or sleeping!”
